Tampa, Fla. – Kiwanis StoryWalk® is an initiative from Tampa Kiwanis that is expanding. Designed to encourage literacy and exercise for children, the StoryWalk® is a sign installation that displays a storybook along a walking path page by page. In order to read the story, families will walk along the path and read along. The newest Kiwanis StoryWalk® is installed at Carrollwood Village Park and to celebrate, the Kiwanis Club of Carrollwood and Tampa Kiwanis are hosting a ribbon-cutting dedication on Sunday, May 18, 2024, at 3 pm.

The Kiwanis StoryWalk® is maintained by volunteers from both Tampa Kiwanis and Kiwanis Club of Carrollwood who change the story each month. Books are hand-selected to include fun adventures and diverse characters aimed at children aged 3-7. StoryWalk® is bilingual, with stories displayed in both English and Spanish.

“The Kiwanis Club of Tampa is excited to bring StoryWalk® to Carrollwood”, says Amanda Malinowski, Chair of the StoryWalk® Committee. “We know that early literacy and a love of reading is fundamental in a child’s educational development. Our hope is that StoryWalk® will encourage literacy skills and help make reading fun!”

The Kiwanis StoryWalk® expansion is generously funded by the Children’s Board Hillsborough County. Three additional locations in the Tampa Bay area are in the works and opening later this summer.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
